To stream a desktop to multiple clients, vSpace Pro 10 needs to be running on Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2012 R2 U1, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Multipoint Server 2011 or Windows Multipoint Server 2012-the firm will also need to purchase the appropriate Microsoft client access licenses. NComputing's vSpace Pro 10 can stream a Windows desktop to a single client from Windows 7, 8.1 or 10 or Windows Server. Young Song, NComputing CEO, said it chose to base the client around the Raspberry Pi 3 because of the board's affordability and portability.Įach RX300 comes bundled with a free one year connection license to vSpace Pro 10, with each subsequent year costing $49 per user. NComputing says the thin clients are designed to be simple to configure and automatically receive updates from vSpace Pro 10 servers. The $99 RX300, which is targeted at educational institutions and SMBs, can be run as a thin client to access a virtual Windows desktop or as a local Raspberry Pi PC, running the Pi's official Linux-based Raspbian OS.

A full computer set (I used a Dell Optiplex 755 with 4 GB RAM).Read also: Installing and configuring NComputing M300 In the steps that follow, I managed to set up a 6 user computer lab at E-zone School of Computing in Nabbingo.

I embarked on a fact finding mission – dismantled my Dell optiplex 755, freed the PCI slots and placed an X550 card. However, it is said, ‘ everything is possible until you are told it is impossible.’ Early in 2018, I posted the same question on the WhatsApp group of Uganda ICT Teachers Association – ‘ Is there a way of installing NComputing X550 on Windows 7?’ To my surprise, a member on the forum responded in the affirmative. Consequently, all the internet cafes I have helped setup over the years have NComputing X550 on the now officially abandoned Windows XP. I tried contacting the technical support department of NComputing and still got the same reply – made for Windows XP.

I consulted a couple of ‘experts’ on this and I was convinced that NComputing X550 was designed strictly for Windows XP. My first attempt at trying it on Windows 7 fell flat. I have always installed NComputing X550 on Windows XP (Service Pack 2) since 2011.
